The story doesn’t pick up immediately after the events of the Season 2 finale and you’ll quickly realize that there are some changes in the group. Most notably, Lori’s pregnancy is further along and Rick needs to figure out where to have this baby. It doesn’t take long for them to stumble across a prison that may be a perfect home if it wasn’t for all of the walkers surrounding and inhabiting it.
When The Walking Dead first aired, the pilot episode was a big TV event that had a movie-quality feel to it. This was due to a creative team that included Frank Darabont, Gale Anne Hurd, and Greg Nicotero, who all had plenty of movie experience under their belts. While I had no major issues with the first Season 2 episode, it didn’t necessarily have that big event quality of the pilot. That’s certainly not the case with the Season 3 premiere, which feels like it could have been the first half of a Walking Dead movie.
The cast and crew really stepped up their game with this premiere. Not only are things moving at a considerably faster pace, but there are easily more walker kills than in previous episodes. Greg Nicotero and KNB EFX continue to impress with the walker effects, and horror fans should enjoy seeing the addition of animatronic walkers to the mix. It may feel like the episode is non-stop action, but there is also just enough downtime to let us know what these characters have been going through.
Like many, I was a huge fan of Shane in Season 2 and I have to say that you aren’t really given a chance to miss him. Fans of the comic series will be especially surprised by how quickly events transpire in just the first episode.  Similar to the past seasons, the story mirrors many of the major events from comic book, but isn’t a direct adaptation. You’ll notice that little changes have gone in to make up for the fact that Dale, Sophia, and Otis died off much earlier in the TV series. Also, fans of T-Dog and Maggie will be happy to learn that they have really stepped it up in Shane’s absence, along with the rest of the group.
The big focus of this episode is on Rick and the group of survivors discovering the prison. Because of it, you’ll see very little of Andrea and Michonne in this episode. Keep in mind, however, that there are sixteen episodes this season and we’ll see plenty of them and many brand new characters throughout the season.
It seems like this episode has also been designed as a great jumping on point for those who have never watched an episode of The Walking Dead. Those who are not fans of the show may not be won over by this episode, but I’d still suggest giving it a try. The episode definitely fits in line with the previous seasons, although it has a different pacing and feel to it that you may enjoy.
If you’ve been a fan of the TV series so far, I can’t see how you won’t be blown away by the opening of The Walking Dead Season 3. By the time it ends, you’ll be cursing your TV because you’ll want to get into the next episode right away. Having seen the second episode, I can tell you that it is just as impressive as the first. It’s an entirely different paradigm. I don’t even market anything, and that’s not to be cocky or anything. All we have is one Facebook, one Youtube, and one Formspring. I just go online, and answer questions, or post a poster if there’s an event coming up.

Our first event was in February, if I am not mistaken.

Win or Lose situation

Manny Pacquiao, above, is so eager to secure a super-fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. that he said he's willing to accept a lesser share of the purse, win or lose.

Manny Pacquiao is now saying he will accept just 45% of the total purse in an anticipated super-fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year.

“Win or lose, I’ll take 45%,” Pacquiao told his publicist Friday in Mexico City. “Floyd can have top billing, he can be introduced in the ring first or last.

“He can wear my trunks. I don’t care. I just want to get him in the ring and make the fight.”

Pacquiao first said during an ESPN appearance Thursday that he was willing to take the 45% cut.

Pacquiao’s advisor, Michael Koncz, tried to clarify to The Times on Friday that the boxer was willing to accept a deal in which the winner would receive 55% and the loser gets 45%. That’s the same deal Koncz was extending to Mayweather in the spring.

Yet Pacquiao told publicist Fred Sternburg on Friday that he would take the flat 45% purse regardless of the outcome. Pacquiao has previously said he’d also submit to drug testing up to “the day of the fight.”

“I don’t know what more he can do,” Sternburg said, as Pacquiao and his Dec. 8 opponent Juan Manuel Marquez appeared before an estimated crowd of 20,000 in Mexico to promote their fourth fight Dec. 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

In his Monday appearance in Beverly Hills, Pacquiao said he was more confident than ever that a Mayweather deal can be struck in 2013.

“I hope that the fight with Mayweather will be close, to give the fans the fight they want,” Pacquiao said.

When pressed why he felt so confident, Pacquiao just grinned and said, “It’s hard to say,” with Koncz then interrupting to say, “Secret.”

Part of it could be the Pacquiao camp’s hope that striking a co-promotion deal with Mayweather’s associate, rapper 50 Cent, could inspire goodwill that leads to finally finding agreement in a negotiation that has failed in the past over drug testing, purse splits and personal issues.

50 Cent has worked to establish a fight promotion company named after Mayweather’s own title for his entourage, the Money Team.

Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum has also praised 50 Cent’s business sense and personality, part of that being the wishful thinking that the rapper would assert more influence on Mayweather than Arum’s rival promoter, Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy, and longtime nemesis Al Haymon, Mayweather’s manager.

“You can speak to 50 in a reasonable way, and he talks back without the insults of calling me a nasty old man,” said Arum, a reference to Schaefer’s recent dig in The Times.

Schaefer has expressed confidence Mayweather will continue to retain Golden Boy for some promotional work. They’ve worked together on every fight since Mayweather defeated Oscar De La Hoya by split-decision in 2007 – the most lucrative fight in history.

Additionally, it’s unclear how tight the friendship of Mayweather and 50 Cent is at the moment. Attempts to reach Mayweather and his advisor Leonard Ellerbe have been unsuccessful.
